With a pier extending from my backyard. It’s the perfect spot for crabbing. I mean, why go to the crowded beaches when you can have your own little crabbing oasis?
Every morning, during the months of June, July & August, I wake up to the sound of waves lapping against the shore and seagulls calling out overhead. I grab a cup of coffee and head down to my pier, where I can soak in the peacefulness of the early morning and cast my crab trap into the water.
I could spend hours just sitting there, soaking up the sun and enjoying the tranquility of the water, that is if I didn’t have so many other things to do. But I do take time to soak up a little sun and the sounds that come from living on the water.
There’s something about the gentle swaying of the pier and the rhythm of the waves that just puts me in a zen state of mind. It’s a perfect way to start the day and clear my head before the hustle and bustle of daily life sets in.
Of course, the best part is when I get to pull up my trap and see what I’ve caught. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of discovering a big, juicy crab in your trap, and then feasting on it later that day. It’s such a satisfying feeling to know that I’m providing my own food and connecting with nature in such a direct way.
I have my favourite crab cake and Seafood Casserole recipes too that I make every summer. I’ll post those recipes eventually.
